Youth
Investing in Our Future
The Community Foundation for Mason County is committed to investing in the future of our youth. We offer two unique programs that provide Mason County youth with valuable opportunities to learn about philanthropy, develop leadership skills, and save for their future.
Youth Advisory Council (YAC)
The YAC is a group of high school students from school districts across the county who meet monthly during the school year and make decisions about grants to be awarded. In order to make grant decisions, the YAC conducts a needs assessment every three years to identify the community issues most important to young people in the county.
KickStart to Career
The KickStart to Career program is designed to help children learn about financial planning and save for their future education. The program is currently available to all kindergarten through 5th grade students in Mason County. Each student is given a savings account for each student seeded with a $50 deposit. Children can earn money for their accounts by participating in special incentives.

Featured Fund:
All Around Senior Fund
Inspired by Katie Biggs, a 2015 Ludington High School (LHS) graduate, the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) established a fund to recognize outstanding seniors. Each year, the “All-Around Senior” receives $500 to donate to their chosen charity. YAC expanded Katie’s LHS initiative to Mason County Central and Eastern school districts, empowering young people to give back to their communities.
