COVID-19 Relief Fund
United Way and Foundations Partner to Create COVID-19 Relief Fund
LUDINGTON, Mich., March 26, 2020 — United Way of Mason County, Community Foundation for Mason County and Pennies from Heaven Foundation are working collaboratively to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus on local families and members of the community. A COVID-19 Relief Fund has been created at the United Way of Mason County with seed moneys from the Community Foundation, United Way, Pennies from Heaven Foundation and corporate partners Meijer and Consumers Energy Foundation.
The funds will be used to support organizations on the front line serving the Mason County community. “In our county, over 45% of households struggle to meet their basic needs. That’s more than 5,400 households in Mason County. For many, one small setback can lead to a major financial hardship, especially a prolonged crisis like we are faced with right now. We’re committed to doing all we can to help those who need it most,” stated Lynne Russell, United Way of Mason County Executive Director.
“We are so lucky to belong to a community where supporting each other is a part of the culture. The impact of the coronavirus is being felt across our area, and our goal is for these funds to be available to meet immediate needs,” added Andrea Large, Community Foundation for Mason County Executive Director.
